I have been an artist for as long as I can remember.

 

Growing up, I was surrounded by art not only in our home but also in my city. Looking back, I remember that the arts were respected and creativity was encouraged in all of its forms. I have practiced many mediums but find the most joy working intuitively in collage and mixed media assemblage. I love incorporating vintage and discarded items because it allows me to honor and bring new life to those items that are no longer used for their original purpose. Sometimes it’s sculptures using antiques, pieces of tire, or using random discarded items with clay. Sometimes it’s using something unusual for a canvas like an old tin ceiling tile, a vintage purse, book or even clothing.

 

Of course, there are times when I am using more traditional and newer items but my love for the old and discarded is something that I will always try to incorporate. I may have been called a hoarder of weird things once or twice but for me, if I can repurpose something that someone has put their own time, energy and love into, I am all about it.
